Charity team building for tech and software teams.

Why it lands with engineers

The objection we hear most is that team building is soft. These are builds with instructions, tolerances and a quality check, and the thing you make is used by a real person afterwards. That is a different proposition.

  • There is a right answer. A bike that fails its safety check does not get donated. People take that seriously.
  • It suits people who would rather make than mingle. Nobody has to perform, and the conversation happens over the work.
  • It works for distributed teams. If half your team cannot travel, our virtual builds runs over video with kits posted out beforehand.

For teams that are not in one place

Virtual Charity Team Building runs over video for teams spread across locations, with the kits posted out in advance and the finished builds collected afterwards. It is the same donation at the end.

Questions we get asked

Can this work for a distributed or remote team?

Yes. Our virtual build runs over video with kits posted to everybody beforehand, and the finished items are collected and donated exactly as they would be at an in person event.

Our team are sceptical about team building. Will this land?

It usually lands better than expected, because there is a right answer. The builds have instructions and a safety check, and anything that fails does not get donated, so the work is real rather than symbolic.

How many people can take part?

Anywhere from six to two thousand. Smaller teams usually run one of our small group challenges, and very large groups run in waves so everybody builds something.

How long does it take?

Most events run between one and three hours. The short format builds fit inside a conference agenda and the full builds suit an away day.

Do we need a special venue?

No. Almost every event runs in a room you already have, whether that is your own office, a hotel function room or a conference space. We tell you exactly what the space needs when we quote.

What happens to what we build?

It is given to a charity, almost always on the same day. Wherever possible the charity comes and collects it in front of your team, which is the part people remember.

Tell us roughly what you have in mind.

A rough headcount and a rough date is enough to start. You get the prices first, and we only follow up if you want us to.
